An I-5 motorcycle crash on the 5 Freeway near Camp Pendleton killed three motorcyclists on Thursday.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a Jeep Wrangler swerved off the highway for unknown reasons, struck a guardrail, and became disabled.

CHP Officer Hunter Gerber also stated that the Jeep was not affiliated with the military, contradicting previous reports.

As the Jeep lay disabled, a Mercedes-Benz van crashed and overturned, causing a chain reaction that involved four motorcyclists.

Unfortunately, one of the motorcyclists lost control and crashed into the van, igniting a fire. The fire then claimed the lives of three of the motorcyclists at the scene.

Meanwhile, responders took the 29-year-old driver and 50-year-old passenger of the Jeep Wrangler to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver and passenger of the van also suffered moderate injuries and were hospitalized.

Additionally, paramedics rushed one motorcyclist to a hospital with major non-life-threatening injuries.

Moreover, the investigation into this I-5 motorcycle crash is ongoing, with CHP Officer Gerber stressing that all details are still under review.

J&M Tip: It is crucial to remain attentive on the road to avoid crashing into initial crashes. In a chain collision, you may file several personal injury cases simultaneously if multiple parties are liable for the collision.
